Al Paton

Feb 08 Urban Mix producer Al Paton's lyrics were chosen for the Nashua Western Cape Cobras cricket team theme song. The lyrics were co-written with Lesley Paton, to music by Gabi Le Roux (Mandoza, Jack Hammer) with executive producer Clive Ridgeway (Johnathan Butler, Judith Sephuma). The song will feature at all Cobras games this season.


His Latest Flame

Dec 07 His Latest Flame's song 'Blue', recorded at Urban Mix reached #2 on samp3.com's charts. Can't say we're surprised...

Another of their tracks, 'Cellophane' recorded at UM, is currently playing on Radio 2000




Ella Gabriel

December's winner in our facebook competition is Ella Gabriel. Congrats! Ella and "The Probematiques' win 8 hours of studio time.


Al Paton

Aug 07: Urban Mix producer Al Paton scores two songs in the top 20 of the Vivacious Voice National Songwriting Competition - 'Peachy' at #6 and 'Always' at #19 (with the band Desert Velvet).

Another of Paton's compositions, 'Matchstick Man', made the top 40 pop rock charts on Garageband.com earlier this year. The song was awarded a number of accolades including best 15 lyrics of all-time in pop rock (out of 20000). It features Yves Dei-Cont (guitar), Marcus Bester (keyboards) and Nick Akker (bass) and was produced by Chris Akker.


Ntaba and the Stone

Ntaba and the Stone, the talented reggae singer and his band from the townships of Cape Town have produced an impressive demo album at Urban Mix, but there's more to the tale.

Teboes & Ross McDonald of The Rudimentals, have been in studio adding their talents to Ntaba & The Stone's album (see above). The collaborative song 'Buffalo City' is set to feature on the documentary of the same name.

Michal Hoffman, talented pianist-singer-songwriter recording a demo album.

Candy Schlesinger, singing her heart out for EMI London.

Ayatolla, a master djembe player recording a full length album.

Displaced People, a four-piece band including Mike Kohl, Michal Hoffman, Shane Cooper and Al Paton, recording a full length album.

The Dogs, a rap/hip-hop group banging out the rhymes.

Drum Cafe have been steaming up the mics with their high energy African drumming. They have also donated towards the production of Ntaba & the Stone (See above).
